Customizer

The WordPress customizer has options that allow you to personalise your website, and the ability to preview the changes you make before saving them.

Finding the Customizer

There are two ways you can navigate to your customizer:

  1. Login to the backend, go to Appearance > Customise

2. From any page on your website, if logged in as Administrator, click Customise in the top WordPress admin bar.

Customiser Options

The following options are available to personalise your website.

Site Identity

  1. Logo – choose a logo from your media library or upload a logo from your computer. The recommended logo size is 50px x 50px.
  2. Site Title – Insert your site’s title in this field.
  3. Tagline – Insert your site’s tagline in this field.
  4. Site Icon – The site icon displays in the tab of your browser, next to the name of the website. Choose a site icon from your media library or upload an image from your computer.

Core Settings

  1. Preloader Content – choose this to enable lazy loading of images.
  2. Disable Fonts – Choose this to disable the default fonts.

In order to disable the LightSpeed theme credit in the footer install the LSX site customiser. An option will show in the core settings once the plugin is active.

Layout

The layout options in the customizer allow you to do quick and easy layout changes to your header and body areas without touching code.

There are three sections:

  • Header
  • Mobile Header
  • Body

Header

  • Select one of three options to control the layout of the header section on the website. Play around with the options to decide which you prefer.
  • Below the three options you will notice two checkboxes:
    • Fixed Header: selecting this options causes your header to be fixed to the top of the display window when a user scrolls down the page.
    • Search Box in Header: this options allows you to automatically add a search field to the header. The search icon displays on the right hand side of the main menu.
    • Theme Credit – disable the LightSpeed theme credit in the footer by checking this box.

Mobile Header

There are two options which control the location of the hamburger menu and the search icon.

Body

Choose the layout for the body of your website:

  • No sidebar.
  • Sidebar on the right.
  • Sidebar on the left.

Colors

Here you can configure the background color of your homepage.

Background Image

The background image option allows you to set and position a background image for your page body section.

After selecting an image from the media library or your computer, the following options will be available.

Preset configurations:

  • Default
  • Fill screen
  • Fit to screen
  • Repeat
  • Custom

Depending on your choice of preset, you can configure the following:

  • Image position
  • Image size
  • Repeat background image
  • Scroll with page – the option makes the image appear stationary behind your pages content.

Menus

The Menus customiser allows you to create and edit menus on your website. You can add items to a menu, choose the location for a menu

Create New Menu

  • Click on Create New Menu.
  • Give your new menu a descriptive name.
  • Choose the location for your menu (see menu locations below).
  • Click Next and then click Add Items to start adding items to your menu.
  • When you are done click Publish to save your changes.

You can also choose to automatically add top level pages to your menu. Check the box under Menu Options called Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu.

Menu Locations

You can create a new menu from the Menu Locations panel.

  1. Click View All Locations.
  2. Click Create New Menu under the location where you want to place your menu.

The following locations are available:

  • Primary menu
  • Top menu (right)
  • Top menu (left)
  • Social menu
  • Footer menu

You can also add menus to widget areas by selecting the “Navigation menu widget” from the Add a Widget options.

Edit a Menu

  • Go to the Customizer
  • Click on Menus.
  • Select the menu you want to edit.
  • All menu items will appear and you can add, edit or remove any items
  • After you have finished making your changes click Publish to save your changes.

Social Media Links

When you add the URL for a social media site to a menu that is added to the Social Menu location, then an icon will automatically display for the social media channel. The colour of the icon is determined by the theme colour.

You can apply CSS classes to the menu item if you wish to display the icon in a different menu location.

Delete a Menu

  • Go to the Customizer
  • Click on Menus.
  • Select the menu you want to delete.
  • Click Delete Menu at the bottom of the customizer panel.

Homepage Settings

Choose what type of page will be your homepage.

  • Your latest posts – Select this to display your blog post archive as the homepage.
  • A static page – select your homepage from the dropdown menu.
    Click Add New Page if you have not created the page yet.
  • Next select the page that displays your blog posts.
    Click Add New Page if you have not created the page yet.

Widgets

These are the widget areas supported by the LSX theme:

  1. Footer – this is the area at the bottom of the website.
  2. Footer call to action – this is an area above the footer where you can add additional content.

For additional Widget options go to Appearance > Widgets from the WordPress admin panel.

To add a widget select one of the above widget areas, click Add a Widget and choose the widget that you want from the options.
