The Company
On the Dot is the largest multichannel media logistics company in South Africa, offering a comprehensive and integrated, one-stop logistics solution for all media products, such as books, magazines, newspapers, digital fulfilment, consumer electronics and music. With multichannel media logistics in place, the company was looking for a separate website that could enable expansion into eCommerce by making its stock available for purchasing online. The result was the 4me website.
The Challenge
With the client well-versed in distribution but new to eCommerce, the brief required the setting up of their WooCommerce account from scratch, working to install a suitable payment gateway, and getting all product content in place in a manner that worked for their requirements. Working with a homepage created by their nominated designer, our LightSpeed then needed to load a large amount of product content, much of which was available online for a limited period and would need to have built-in automatic expiry.
The Solution
A number of novel solutions were applied to bring this project to fruition. Among these was custom styling for the homepage to ensure responsiveness for mobile and tablets, and the setting up of a customised spreadsheet which enabled product data to be imported quickly and seamlessly, for which training was provided by our LightSpeed team. To answer the need for products to automatically expire, PublishPress Future was used and continues to be a good fit for the purpose required. As the client’s team gets to grips with WooCommerce, our LightSpeed team continues to provide support on managing orders, the use of Coupons for promotion and how to make best use of WooCommerce Reporting to export relevant data.
