The Fiduciary Institute of Southern Africa (FISA) is a non profit organisation that represents fiduciary practitioners and sets high minimum standards for the industry in South Africa. FISA has over 600 members from various trust companies, banks, legal, accounting and financial planning professions. These members’ areas of expertise include the drafting of wills, the administration of trust, estates and beneficiary funds, providing tax and financial advice and the management of client funds among other things.
FISA has been a long standing client of Lightspeed and their website has been evolving since it was developed in 2009. For the past 7 years Lightspeed has maintained the The Fiduciary Institute’s website on a monthly retainer and their website is hosted on our hosting servers. This post covers the latest design and development on the website that was launched at the end of February 2016. FISA was very much in need of a design overhaul as the same look and feel had been maintained for a number of years and was looking a little outdated. Apart from the design overhaul, FISA also requested the added functionality of being able to invoice their members for their annual membership renewals through the website. Another very important requirement of the FISA site is for members to be able to add and update their CPD (Continuing Professional Development) points.
The Fiduciary Institute is a community website and was redeveloped using WordPress and BuddyPress.
Design was managed by our in-house team. The website and theme are regularly updated and new features are introduced as their digital needs change.
The site was rebuilt using WooCommerce to handle annual membership subscription renewals, and Storefront as a base theme to work with WooCommerce. By switching to a Woo-compliant theme we were able to add additional rich functionality than already available.
FISA can now invoice their members automatically via WooCommerce memberships and subscriptions. This was by far the toughest part of the latest round of work we did – after much troubleshooting we came up with a solution for importing their list of hundreds of users, adding them as members who have purchased a recurring one year subscription.
Payment is done manually, but FISA’s clients automatically get sent a PDF proforma before payment is made, and then a PDF tax invoice once payment has been received and processed.
We also added a job management plugin so that they can advertise job listings on their website, also allowing them to sell limited-time job listing packages to employers.
We overhauled the entire look and feel of the site using Storefront, choosing a wide range of new high quality images to be used as full width banners on many of the new pages.
We used the Tribe Events plugin so that FISA can provide details on the venue, time and attendance for various fiduciary events happening around the South Africa.
A new addition to the site is the “Media Room”, where FISA can share various press-related content, such as newsletters, podcasts, video material, regional minutes from past meetings, galleries of past conferences and more.
After our latest changes to the site, FISA now have a site that is mobile friendly, can promote events, job listings, invoice their members, and provide rich media experiences to their website visitors. Their member profile section allows members to keep their online profiles up to date and add their CPD points. Our digital partnership with FISA continues to go from strength to strength.
