The Challenge

HOMEMAKERS had previously been promoting their expos through only a blog category on their main website, https://www.homemakersonline.co.za. They needed the expo site to have functionality that would not work using the theme that the parent site was built with, so we built a new site as a subfolder of the main site with the functionality they required.

The Solution

We built four regional pages for each city’s expo, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria, Each of the city’s had their own expo “homepage” as well as separate blog pages, menu layouts and more.

Each region has a duplicate of the same menu structure but they all link to their own region specific pages. To develop this they added a custom post category as regions – based on which region was selected per page the corresponding menu would display,

We used Soliloquy integration with with LSX Banners, and they wanted sliders throughout their pages as well as all the region’s homepages.

We made use of the LSX Business Directory extension to create the exhibitors listings and showcase the exhibitors per region. We did some custom development here in order to filter the businesses and different displays of the business images in the directory when business have been specified as featured or are running promotions or competitions. WP All Import was used to import the businesses into the directory.

Reviews were added to the Why Exhibit page using LSX Testimonials, and LSX Megamenus was used to add extra style and information to some menu items.

TrendHUB is the custom developed blog section.  The brief was to display national and regional blog posts, and national and regional specific ads.  For ad to display in both archives and single posts it was necessary for  each region to have their own “TrendHUB” archive, and a customisable sidebar, which also features ads.  This required level of customisation resulted in an innovative solution, and the site was more customisable than anticipated.

The site was built as a child theme of LSX, with most of the pages being built with SiteOrigin’s Page Builder Plugin, which allowed for great responsive layouts out the box.

The HOMEMAKERS Expo website was a collaborative project, LightSpeed was responsible for the development, and HOMEMAKERS took on content management.  The partnership was a productive one, the end result speaks for itself in this regard.  We are proud to have used so many of our LSX Extensions in creating this awesome website.
